The Fault in Our Stars (2015)

Homemade cocktail of love, courage, faith, friendship, strength, and growth.

Yet it covers all the other weaknesses- unending self doubt, questions to happiness that we deserve, responsibility choices, fear of not being special and being forgotten- all the imperfections that make us even more endearing and beautiful as we take the leap to mature and venture along the way.

The physical disabilities are symbols of the greater psychological distresses and doom growing in the mind that close us, detach us from the world. In the end, cracking a smile in a tough day, spreading your energy to people around you, letting your loved ones know and feel just how much you care and think about them are things that really matter. The little things that make up our daily lives are the real deal that will leave big marks on the memories, relationships, and lives we cherish in all universe's time.

Gus's metaphor of the unused pack of cigarette is another branch that supports the theme. You put the killing thing right between you teeth, but you don't give it the power to do its killing.

Along the same line, "You don't get to choose if you get hurt in this world, but you do have some say in who hurts you. I like my choices."

Acknowledging the fact that you are insecure and imperfect is one of the hardest things in life. To constantly remind yourself you are clueless, and that we will eventually be forgotten, evaporated amidst the void. It isn't easy. Then, further giving in to depend on others, and giving them power to influence you, turn your world upside down makes the whole process even more complex and painful. So you have to be clever with your choices-- whom you fall in love with, pour your heart to; with whom you share your inner sanctum and exchange the happiest moments.

Everything worthy costs, and there is no other way around it. The truth is out there. Everyone just takes a different approach and goes through a different journey to reach it. I only wish everyone finds a beauty that lies on the way, explainable only in their own weird, idiosyncratic taste and recipe to happiness. I wish we all get there.  I hope we like our choices on who we choose to empower. It should be a magical thing.

"Okay"

The film is definitely more than the sum of its parts. So many amazing lines and beautiful gazes. Since words seem to elude me, gonna sum up with a quote from the film. 'You guys are cute. Makes me sick.'
